Hāloa Kalo Trucker Hat.
ABOUT THE DESIGN:
If you look closely you will see the Hawaiian Islands make up the Lau (Leaves) with our Signature H 'IWA inside the Kalo (Taro Corm). The 'IWA make up the Mountain Ranges on each Island. This design was inspired by the Mo'olelo (Story) of Hāloa (Long, Eternal Breathe). Hāloa was the first son of Wākea (Father Sky) & his Daughter Kaho’ohokulaniikauikaheahea (She who's sets the Stars in Heaven & adorns the Celestial Regions). Their first son was stillborn, & they buried him outside of their Hale (House) facing the Rising Sun in the East. In time a plant grew, with a long stalk & heart-shaped leaves, thus being the first Kalo given the name Hāloanakalaukapalili for the way its leaves fluttered in the wind. As the first Kalo grew and grew, it produced an ‘Oha (Baby Corm), that was removed & planted which formed another Mother Plant. And as this cycle continued, the plants grew and grew just like Family’s do, hence the word ‘Ohana derived from ‘Oha. Hoʻohōkūkalani eventually becomes pregnant again, this time giving birth to a healthy baby boy, who they named Hāloa, after his kuaʻana (elder brother). This story of Hāloa shows the connection between people & nature & how we are reminded of our kuleana (responsibility, privilege) as kānaka (people) to mālama (care for) 'āina (land, literally meaning that which feeds), who in turn will feed, care for, and nourish us.. Mālama ‘Āina mau a mau🌱💚
